Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Status
From Ranger Poole, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge”:
“The entrance road has been reopened to motor vehicles. Now that Sandy Point State Beach Reservation has been reopened, motor vehicles can now travel the entire refuge road (or what we like to call Wildlife Drive).”
“There is presently no (meaning zero) beach access from the national wildlife refuge – including via the Lot 1 boardwalk. In fact, we have reduced the parking capacity of Lot 1 by about half. As I write this note, there are terns and plovers nesting on the area known as the Lot 1 beach.”
“Finally, the VCS restrooms remain closed. There are two porta-potties at Lot 1. Also, the vaulted toilets at Sub Headquarters and Hellcat have been opened.”
“Finally, the visitor center remains closed.”
